Residents in Duncanville should brace for some nighttime traffic disruptions as the Public Works Utilities Division gears up to undertake necessary repairs on a local water main. If you're planning to cruise through the intersection of Cockrell Hill Rd. and E. Wheatland Rd. after dark, you'll need to reroute. Starting June 30, work will begin in the evenings from 8:00 PM until the early hours at 6:00 AM, to make sure your water keeps flowing without a hitch.
Detours will be a temporary staple for eastbound traffic on E. Wheatland Rd. at Cockrell Hill Rd., with closures running from June 30 to July 3, and then picking up again from July 7 through July 9. The Duncanville official website warns, "Our contractor will be closing the eastbound lanes of E. Wheatland Rd. to thru traffic at Cockrell Hill Rd. beginning June 30, 2025, through July 3, 2025, and again from July 7, 2025, through July 9, 2025." That's not the end of it – turns and lanes on Cockrell Rd. will also feel the pinch. So, if you're heading east on Wheatland Rd., be prepared to follow the detour signs guiding you around the work zone.
The night work is a strategic move to cause the least possible disruption to daily life and ensure the water main fixes aren't adding to the daytime traffic. It's clear that the Utilities Division has thought about the impact and is taking steps to mitigate it. Duncanville City's message to the community is straightforward: "We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause."
