In a clear-cut case of swift law enforcement, East Boston Police apprehended a 22-year-old armed suspect, Arlandey Santana, from South Boston yesterday evening after an alleged attempted breaking and entering incident. According to Boston Police Department's site, the apprehension followed a distress call about an attempted break-in at Mi Pueblito restaurant located on Bennington Street.
After responding to the scene at about 7:30 p.m., officers encountered two men that matched the suspect descriptions provided, claimed the Boston Police Department, one of whom was Santana who did not comply with police orders and attempted to flee, he was clutching his waistband and a satchel triggering a chase that concluded without further conflicts at 948 Bennington Street. A search of the apprehended suspect’s satchel revealed a gold-switch equipped firearm, capable of firing automatically - a serious weaponry violation in the state.
The handgun, a modified Glock-style with a damaged serial number, was loaded with 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition in a 17-round magazine, posing a severe risk to community safety. In addition to the weapon, Santana now faces multiple charges, including carrying a firearm without a license and possessing a machine gun.
As this arrest was ongoing, information circulated about a second suspect possibly involved, witnesses reported seeing an individual fitting the description behind an apartment on Saratoga Street and later fleeing through a nearby park; officers located and detained this second male at 130 Brandywine Drive for further investigation, as the Boston Police Department reported. The second suspect's current status in connection with the break-in attempt remains unclear as the investigation continues.
Arlandey Santana's expected arraignment will address the gravity of the accusations brought against him, with charges which include possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number and an attempt to commit a crime, specifically breaking and entering. The court proceedings are set to take place in East Boston District Court, though Santana's legal representation has not yet been made public.
