The National Weather Service in El Paso advises that a 106-degree furnace is on its way, with a heat advisory firmly in place from noon to 8 PM MDT on Sunday. Reports on ground conditions point to "sunny and hot" conditions with temperatures expected to hover near the 103-degree mark, as reported by the National Weather Service.
El Pasoans should be ready to seriously to take precautions, as the National Weather Service cautions that the hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses. The advisory blankets Eastern/Central El Paso County, Rio Grande Valley of Eastern El Paso/Western Hudspeth Counties, Rio Grande Valley of Eastern Hudspeth County, and Western El Paso County. Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors to fend off the effects of the heat.
This isn't a drill, folks. Expect the mercury to linger around the 99-degree mark well into the next week. The forecast signals that starting today, and stretching out till at least next Friday, daily highs will be kissing the 100-degree mark, bar a slight dip to a near 94 on Tuesday, when there's also a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms as per the National Weather Service's readings.
