In a recent incident brought to light by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte on social media, a driver was arrested after attempting to flee from deputies during a traffic stop. The event unfolded on Sunday evening, when deputies, part of a crime suppression operation, signaled a navy-blue Ford Mustang to halt due to the vehicle's failure to use headlights after dark, as reported by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
Ignoring the deputies' commands, the driver, later identified as 28-year-old Erick Mireles, continued to evade law enforcement until he eventually pulled over on the 8700 block of Dyer Street; this led to his apprehension without further incident, the details of which were disclosed to the public through the aforementioned social media announcement. Mireles, now facing charges for Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle, is currently behind bars at the El Paso County Detention Facility, with a bond set at $50,000.
Sheriff Ugarte was firm in his condemnation of the actions taken by the driver, stating, "Evading from deputies will not be tolerated," emphasizing the inherent danger these scenarios pose, not just to the suspect but to the broader community, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff’s viewpoint was clear: defiance towards law enforcement is a serious offense, and those engaging in such behavior will face the full extent of legal repercussions.
