In a somber discovery early this morning, two men believed to be in their 70s were found shot to death at Wildheather Park in Southwest Houston. According to KHOU 11, the Houston Police Department responded to the scene at White Heather Drive after being called at around 6 a.m.
Houston's Wildheather Park, normally a tranquil spot for community morning strolls, became the grim setting of a fatal shooting. The men, who were friends and neighbors, had been out for their daily walk on the trail when they were attacked. A passerby woman discovered their bodies and notified authorities. Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots just before 6 a.m., as per an interview with KHOU 11.
From the gruesome details obtained by FOX 26 Houston, it seems the assailant shot both victims multiple times, standing over their bodies to fire additional rounds. The motive behind the heinous act remains unclear, as police said the victims still had their phones and keys on them, suggesting robbery was likely not the intent.
The identities of the deceased have yet to be disclosed pending notification of their families. Furthermore, there have been no descriptions provided of the shooter, and police continue to seek leads on why this violent act occurred. Houston police urge anyone with information related to the shooting to contact the HPD Homicide Division at (713)308-3600.
