A 71-year-old man was fatally shot by Henderson police officers amid a burglary investigation early Thursday morning. The incident unfolded during a Southeast Las Vegas valley neighborhood operation that began the previous evening, when officers responded to reports of a burglary involving a stolen vehicle on Imperia Drive, 8NewsNow reports.
Tracking led police to the 3800 block of Casa Colorado, close to Mountain Vista Street and E. Twain Avenue, where the fatal confrontation occurred. During a search warrant served at approximately 7 a.m., Henderson police's SWAT team engaged with the elderly man, resulting in shots fired and his subsequent death. While serving the warrant, engaging with the elderly man led to shots being fired, according to a statement obtained by KTNV. Despite aid being provided at the scene, the man was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.
The investigation is still in its early phases, with further details promised to be shared during a critical incident community briefing at a later date. According to Sgt. Daniel Medrano, this is the second officer-involved shooting involving Henderson police in 2025.
The events have sparked an ongoing investigation, led by Henderson police. The jurisdiction fell within the Las Vegas Metro area, but the unfolding of events saw involvement from Henderson police. As the public awaits further details on the incident, which began Wednesday around 5:40 p.m. with a vehicle theft, Sgt. Daniel Medrano told 8NewsNow. Medrano also noted that after tracking the stolen vehicle to the home on Casa Colorado, officers sought and executed a search warrant when they confronted the man, whose life was abruptly ended by gunfire at his residence.
