
A tragic accident has claimed the life of a 60-year-old man following a collision in Rockville. Shanming Wei, of Ellicott City, was fatally injured in a parking lot incident in the 500 block of Dover Road that occurred on April 16, as detailed by the Montgomery County Department of Police.
The collision unfolded when a white 2020 Ford F150, operated by an unidentified driver, struck Wei and a female pedestrian as the driver was reversing into a loading bay; additionally hitting two parked cars in a series of events that authorities are still piecing together. According to the Montgomery County Police Department's press release, Rockville City Police and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the incident at approximately 12:38 p.m. on the fateful day. The driver of the F150 remained at the scene after the collision, while both Wei and the second female were swiftly taken to an area hospital.
Tragically, Wei succumbed to his life-threatening injuries almost two months later, passing away last Wednesday, June 18. While the second victim, whose name has not been released, was also hospitalized, her injuries were deemed critical but non-life-threatening. The Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) of the Montgomery County Department of Police is leading a thorough investigation into the crash, actively seeking witnesses to better comprehend the circumstances that led to such calamitous outcomes.
