An Elyria woman has been hospitalized with severe injuries following a fire at her mobile home yesterday, where, unfortunately, a dog also perished in the blaze. Fire crews were dispatched to the residence on the 300 block of Gull Drive, within the Pikewood Manor Mobile Home Park, around 10:45 a.m., as reported by Cleveland19.
The Elyria Fire Department found the resident in a critical state amid the fire, which caused an estimated $40,000 in damages, the release noted. Following initial treatment at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, the woman's injuries necessitated a transfer to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, according to details from a WKYC report.
The fire department spent approximately two hours on the scene to extinguish the fire, during which no other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, with further details yet to be released by officials.
While expressing the gravity of the situation, Elyria Fire Chief Joe Pronesti confirmed the incident and its unfortunate outcome of a lost pet, "severely injured" resident, as described in a release obtained by FOX8. The loss of the dog adds a layer of tragedy to the event, which has shaken the community of the Pikewood Manor Mobile Home Park.
