Heads up, Englewood residents and commuters: major water infrastructure upgrades are on the way, and they're bringing road closures along South Broadway starting June 11. According to the City of Englewood, the city's Utilities department will be replacing old lead water lines with new copper ones to ensure safe drinking water. This essential work means you'll need to navigate around some detours for a while.
The lowdown on the upcoming disruptions: southbound Broadway is set to shut down by two-block increments, pushing traffic over to Bannock Street during the working window of 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., while northbound lanes get squeezed into a single lane shuffle within those same two-block stretches; everyone's dance card is full with closures pegged to last about two days per area. Once the pipes are in, crews will circle back to each spot for some permanent road patching, but rest assured, any chaos in front of your doorstep won't linger more than two days at most.
It's a time for patience, planning, and perhaps a bit of grumbling, but also for a nod to the long-term gain over this temporary pain. The city is making strides to ensure the water that runs through our taps is safer and the infrastructure beneath our streets is sound. For those daily routines soon to be upended, you've got a few days left to chart those alternate routes and set your alarms a touch earlier. Englewood thanks everyone in advance for their understanding and cooperation as they lay the groundwork for improvements that are sure to make a splash in the community.
