An engaged Douglas County community member's keen eye and a prompt call to the authorities have led to the apprehension of a suspect in a construction site burglary. On the evening of June 16, a resident noticed unusual activity at a construction site located on SSG Chris Falkel Drive and notified Douglas County Regional Dispatch, as originally reported by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The Douglas County deputies from the Grave and Swing shifts responded swiftly, setting up a perimeter to contain the situation. Their coordinated efforts resulted in the discovery of two individuals attempting to flee the scene. Although one suspect remains at large, the deputies arrested 34-year-old Joshua Staup of Englewood, who was found carrying burglary tools, suspected fentanyl pills, and credit cards that were not his.
Staup, who also had an active warrant related to dangerous drugs, is now facing the repercussions of that fateful night. Sheriff Darren Weekly highlighted the crucial role of the community and the deputies' collaboration, stating, "A huge thank you to the community member who made the call and to the deputies whose teamwork led to a safe and successful arrest,” according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
