An Essex woman, an avid lottery player, received a life-altering surprise when she scratched off a $5 million win on a Maryland Lottery ticket. The winning ticket, part of the "$5,000,000 Fortune" game, was claimed at the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “The first thing I started doing was jumping up and down,” the winner said, as reported by NottinghamMD following her realization of the win.
Initially believing she had won $50,000 after scanning the ticket’s QR code, a second look revealed the substantial increase in zeroes, marking her as the beneficiary of a $5 million fortune. According to the same source, the winner initially hesitated to purchase the $50 scratch-off ticket; usually, she prefers bingo-themed games, but ultimately found herself opting for the higher-priced ticket at the Back River Exxon gas station in Essex.
The woman plans to invest the majority of her winnings and live off the income, purchase homes and vehicles for herself and her daughter, support other relatives, and make contributions to her faith community, according to Shore News Network.
The Back River Exxon will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
