The Evergreen State Fair has announced Pat Pehling as its honoree for the year 2025, in acknowledgment of her unwavering commitment and service spanning multiple decades devoted to 4-H and the cultivation of young minds. Pehling's involvement with 4-H started in 1961, and she has been a constant presence at every Evergreen State Fair since 1962, transitioning from a youth participant to a volunteer committed to passing on her knowledge and passion, especially within the equine program.
Over the years, Pat has filled various roles, such as Awards Chair, Policy and Resolution Chair, and Record Book Chair. It is estimated that through her diligent involvement, she has imparted wisdom to approximately 10,000 individuals, and her efforts in fundraising have significantly bolstered the Snohomish County 4-H treasury, raising between $30,000 and $50,000 annually. According to a statement obtained by Snohomish County Government, "Pat is the heart of 4-H at the Evergreen State Fair," as expressed by Fair Manager Mike Ohlsen.
Notably, Pehling is also recognized for her expertise in parliamentary procedure and played a pivotal role in a successful campaign in 1999 aimed at securing funding for local 4-H programs. Her contributions extend beyond the county level, as she has been active in state-level committees and has coordinated major events like the 4-H Horse Bowl and Horse Judging Contest.
Aside from her committee work, Pehling has authored crucial documents like the Washington State 4-H Horse Bowl Rulebook and the PNW 4-H Horse Manual. She is currently at the helm of the Oregon-Washington Horse Judging School. Pat told Snohomish County Government, "I'm honored to be recognized and join such an incredible list of past honorees." Her years of service have not gone unnoticed, as she has accrued awards such as the State 4-H Alumni Award, Leader of the Year, and the Leader Jacket, indicative of her influence on generations of youth.
