Commuters in the Cleveland area should prepare for additional delays as the I-90 and SR 528 interchange closure dates have been extended. According to a social media post by the Ohio Department of Transportation District 12, Cleveland, complications with the subgrade on the eastbound entrance ramp have necessitated a continued closure through June 30.
The difficulties with the subgrade, unforeseen in Ohio's precarious dance with infrastructure and the elements, will require crews to continue to work diligently to construct a durable foundation. This work is a continuation of safety improvements that started in 2024, with the aim not just to patch a problem temporarily, but to build solutions meant to stand against the test of time and usage. The eastbound entrance ramp for I-90 will therefore stay closed, essentially extending the expected inconvenience for drivers who frequent this route.
Additionally, the department has announced a scheduled closure for the I-90 westbound exit ramp beginning on Monday, July 7. This ramp will be inaccessible for approximately one week. Motorists looking to navigate between these two points will need to follow an alternative course. Detour signs will guide drivers around the construction zones, but it is advisable to plan for these detours to avoid delays.
