A series of alarming incidents unfolded in Alexandria, as a man was arrested following two attempted abductions near Metro stations. The Alexandria City Police took 35-year-old Fairfax County resident Jeffrey Gary into custody on charges including assault and battery, sexual battery, and attempted abduction, as detailed by NBC Washington.
The first incident, happening around 8:45 p.m. at the Potomac Yard station, involved a 30-year-old woman who was attacked in the presence of her four-year-old child. Both managed to escape the ordeal and subsequently reported the attack. An hour later, while on the hunt for the assailant, police secured video evidence of a second, similar attempted abduction near the Braddock Road station, as per NBC Washington. The video revealed the suspect crossing the street to follow another woman, also in her 30s, and violently taking her to the ground before she could fend him off.
The evening's terror began with a woman who, after exiting the Braddock Metro station around 9:40 p.m., was assaulted from behind in the 1100 block of Madison Street. "Bravely resisted, shoved the suspect away, and ran to safety before calling 911," Alexandria Police said in a news release reported by WTOP. A coordinated investigation between multiple agencies soon led to the apprehension of Gary, identified as the capturing suspect by the police, who they believe is responsible for both attacks.
