The family of twin brothers Qaadir and Naazir Lewis is disputing the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) conclusion that their deaths were suicides. At a press conference on Friday, family members, joined by NAACP representatives and State Rep. Gabe Okoye, called for an independent investigation and the release of all related evidence, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

The GBI previously stated that their findings were supported by cell phone data and surveillance footage, as per WSB Radio. However, the family raised concerns about potential inconsistencies. Rep. Okoye questioned the credibility of the investigation during the press conference.

Relatives also questioned why the 19-year-olds would have driven on a dangerous mountain road and how they gained access to the gated area where they were later found.

In response to public calls for more information, a GBI spokesperson addressed attorney Gerald Griggs on X, stating that the agency had not declared the case closed and shared a repost of its earlier statement, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

The twins were discovered by a hiker on March 8 on Bell Mountain. Their family described them as outgoing and said there were no signs they intended to harm themselves. The family continues to seek additional investigation into the circumstances of their deaths.
