Last Friday, in the early morning, a stolen vehicle was involved in a deadly crash in Franklin County. Sheriff Dallas Baldwin from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office reported a white 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe, recently reported stolen out of the Columbus/Canal Winchester area, was found wrecked on Winchester Pike. According to the statement, the Tahoe had veered off the road and rolled into a field before coming to a halt by a telephone pole, facing north.
The accident occurred around 12:13 am, when the Tahoe departed the road's south side, slid, rolled, and ultimately came to a stop. Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, alongside officers and medics from Columbus Police and Madison Township, responded to the crash. Upon their arrival, they discovered the driver—who was the only person in the vehicle—ejected and lying at the road’s edge. Efforts to revive the driver were made, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene by Madison Township medics at 12:17 am, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office report.
The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing, with authorities piecing together the moments that led to the tragic incident. The identity of the driver has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Officials are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward to aid in the investigation.
