In a turn of events, a pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run incident on Interstate 90 near Preston last week. The Washington State Patrol reported the accident occurred shortly after noon last Thursday. According to their dispatch, the victim was associated with a disabled red vehicle on the highway's right shoulder when they attempted to cross the freeway. A black Toyota Sequoia, driving on the left shoulder collided with the pedestrian, who did not survive the impact.
Witnesses began to quickly call 9-1-1 to report the serious collision. Shortly thereafter, the Sequoia was found disabled prior to the Preston exit. The driver of the Sequoia attempted to carjack another vehicle but was ultimately taken into custody following an altercation with troopers. The WSP is actively seeking to gather more information and has made a public appeal for additional witnesses or any video evidence. Detectives are encouraging anyone with relevant footage or knowledge of the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Authorities are particularly interested in any video material that could potentially show the hit-and-run or the movements of the black Sequoia before the collision occurred. As per the report posted on the Washington State Patrol website, Detective Todd Early and Detective Judah Bergeron are the primary contacts for the investigation, and witnesses are urged to email them with information that could aid their inquiry.
