An investigation is currently in progress following a tragic incident that resulted in a fatality along Interstate 10 near Jefferson Street in Phoenix, ABC15 reports. The situation began to unfold early in the morning, around 5 a.m., when calls came in about a series of vehicles halted on the highway. A trooper dispatched to the scene discovered a deceased individual who, authorities suggest, was hit by numerous vehicles.

While some of the involved vehicles remained at the scene, it remains unclear whether there were other participants in the tragic event. The identity of the victim has not been publicly shared, and the circumstances that led to their presence on the roadway are still under wraps. "The Highway Patrol Division's Vehicular Crimes Unit, with the assistance of State Troopers, is actively investigating the incident," explained the Arizona Department of Public Safety in a statement provided by FOX 10 Phoenix.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, all lanes of traffic were shut down temporarily, causing significant delays, although they were reopened by 11 a.m., according to FOX 10 Phoenix.
