On Saturday, a fire erupted inside the Crypto.com Arena, drawing a swift response from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). The blaze was reported shortly after 4:00 p.m. at the arena, located at 1111 S. Figueroa Street, as CBS News Los Angeles reported.
First responders were summoned after "moderate smoke" was observed emanating from a storage room on the first floor of the venue, triggering sprinklers across the first and second floors. According to an LAFD alert, firefighters went into offensive mode, attempting to locate the source of fire by establishing a hose lay. There were no injuries reported, and the investigation into the cause of the incident is still ongoing. Notably, no events were scheduled at the arena on that day.
As the situation progressed, the LAFD provided an update, noting a “significant decrease in visible smoke ... firefighters are working to isolate the source,” in a kitchen area, per a subsequent alert. The discovery that the fire originated in the ducting system running from Sub Level 1 to the first floor, as stated in another LAFD release, brought some relief to the responders and the public alike.
Crews were expected to remain on the scene to conduct a thorough water removal operation after the fire was knocked down.
