The City of Flagstaff is rolling out the red carpet for locals to size up the next potential Human Resources and Risk Management Director. In a display of transparency, the city is throwing open the doors of Flagstaff City Hall on June 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. for a meet and greet with the top four finalists. The city, having sifted through 59 applications and endured the tedium of 10 screening interviews, invites the public to weigh in on the decision-making process. These candidates didn't just fall off the turnip truck; we're talking about professionals with heavy-duty resumes and a breadth of HR experience.
According to an announcement provided by the City of Flagstaff, these candidates are set to make their pitch to both the public and the decision-makers. First up, we have Dustin Green, a seasoned veteran of HR with over a quarter-century in the field spanning public and private sectors, as well as academia. Green comes equipped with both a bachelor's and a master's degree in his field. Bret Painter follows, bringing a unique blend of ten years in HR, including his tenure at the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, capped with twenty years of military service. Painter's academic arsenal includes a master's in management and human resources, along with a bachelor's in education and development.
Then there's Ryan Saxby, no stranger to city work with nine years under his belt in Tucson, wearing hats up to Assistant Director in their HR department. Saxby pairs a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and political science with a master's in public administration. Last but not least, Melissa Yergensen pitches her tent in the private sector as a Human Resources Manager following a stint as Duchesne County's HR Director. She brings to the table a bachelor's in psychology and a master's in human resource management.
Flagstaff's approach is a civic two-way street: they aren't just introducing these candidates, they're soliciting feedback from citizens who can cast their opinions post-event via a SurveyMonkey link, or for the more tech-savvy, a QR code. Questions from the curious or those requiring more details ahead of the gathering can be directed to Kimberly Bottorff, Recruitment Analyst, at [email protected] or Joanne Keene, Deputy City Manager, at [email protected].
