A former track coach and teacher at Detroit's East English Village Academy, Nathan Lemuel Tedford, faces charges of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old student athlete, Wayne County Prosecutor's Office shared today. Tedford, 54, of Detroit, is accused of the crime that allegedly took place on May 29 at his residence located in the 16000 block of Lenore, according to The Detroit News.

Lured by claims that he could provide chiropractic treatment, the victim, who was Tedford's student and track athlete, reportedly went to Tedford's home where the assault occurred, ClickOnDetroit reports. Charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, Tedford saw his bond initially set at $30,000, before it was raised to $50,000 cash today.

The Detroit Public Schools Community District has placed Tedford on unpaid administrative leave pending the investigation, following the charges. As the investigation continues, the Detroit Police Department's Special Victims Unit is actively seeking information and can be contacted at 313-596-1950, stated ClickOnDetroit.

Tedford, who no longer holds his position as the track coach at the academy, is ordered to have no contact with anyone under 21, as part of his bond conditions. Officials from the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced that "more complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the preliminary examination." His next court appearance is scheduled for June 26, with a preliminary examination on July 3 before Judge Shawn Jacque, according to the Detroit Free Press.
