Elizabethton has welcomed a new member to its City School Board, as Josh Smith, a former news anchor with a strong community connection, was sworn in on Wednesday. According to the City of Elizabethton, Smith is stepping in to fill the vacant position left by Danny O'Quinn. Known for his time in front of the camera at WJHL, Smith brings a familiar face to the boardroom, assuming his role following the oath of office administered by Judge Teresa Murray Smith at the City Hall's Council Chambers.
In an interview reported by the City of Elizabethton, Elizabethton City Schools Director Richard VanHuss praised Smith's commitment to the community, saying, "It is a very exciting day for our school system." VanHuss expressed his gratitude for O’Quinn's contributions and voiced his optimism about Smith's involvement, "When you get someone of Josh’s caliber, it is incredible."
Smith himself acknowledges the significance of his appointment, feeling both pride and humility. "I am incredibly proud to tell people that I am an Elizabethton City Schools graduate," Smith told the City of Elizabethton. He expressed his family's gratitude and conveyed his honor in taking the educational mantle. Despite the short term of his appointment, he maintains a light-hearted attitude, jokingly saying, "Yes, it will be for a short term, so the board will need to use me and abuse me."
