Prospect Road is getting a facelift, but it's going to pinch traffic flow for a few days. The City of Fort Collins and BNSF Railway are teaming up to replace the railroad crossing on West Prospect Road, just west of South College Avenue. The project is set to run from June 9 to 12, barring any weather tantrums that could push the schedule around. According to the City of Fort Collins, this upgrade means that the segment of Prospect will be entirely off-limits to traffic from Monday night through Thursday.

It seems the original plan was to tackle this job from June 2-5, but forecasted storms got a veto on that. If you're planning your commute, detours are your new best friends. Vehicles that normally cut east or west across Prospect are being rerouted to Mulberry Street or Drake Road. And if you tend to bike or hoof it on the Mason Trail, you'll need to switch to the Spring Creek Trail, Remington Street, and the Garden Trail to stay clear of the construction chaos.

Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians will find detour signage to guide them around the closed block, and MAX bus riders can breathe easy; the service isn't breaking a sweat over this construction and will continue business as usual. The city has made it clear that while Prospect is getting a new set of tracks, local traffic to homes and businesses will stay intact throughout the replacement period.
