An officer-involved shooting occurred late Sunday evening in Fort Collins, Colorado, where police responded to a report of a knife-wielding suspect involved in an argument. According to Fort Collins Police Services, the incident took place in the 700 block of Eastdale Drive around 10:30 p.m.
Police reportedly found the male suspect outside a residence and gave commands for him to drop the knife. Despite utilizing less lethal tools, the suspect continued to not comply with the officers' demands. As a result, an FCPS officer discharged his weapon, striking the individual. The suspect was subsequently apprehended and transported to a local hospital, with his condition remaining undisclosed.
No further injuries were reported during the event, and the FCPS has assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community. In the wake of the shooting, the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was activated to take over the investigation, with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office now leading the proceedings.
Further updates on the case are expected to come directly from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. The identity of the officer involved in the shooting has not been released at this time, and authorities have asked anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. As is standard practice in officer-involved shootings, the CIRT will likely critically review the circumstances surrounding the use of lethal force and determine whether it was justified under the conditions faced by the officers.
