Last Friday, the Fort Worth Fire Department tackled a blaze at a local scrapyard, demonstrating the city's unyielding resilience in the face of danger. The fire, which engulfed a hefty pile of scrap metal, prompted a robust response from firefighting teams, according to a social media post by the Fort Worth Fire Department.
At approximately 3:15 p.m., units, including Engine 25, were on scene at the north side scrapyard where they encountered the inferno. The firefighters, grappling with the conflagration, deployed two handlines in their battle against the fire. "They used two handlines, and later, two aerial ladders were needed to extinguish the fire," the Fort Worth Fire Department detailed. The situation was so intense that over half a million gallons of water were expended in the four-and-a-half-hour effort to quell the flames.
This incident marked the second fire of its kind that day, following an earlier, smaller scrapyard fire near White Settlement Road. The cumulative exertion to subdue these fires saw more than 50 firefighters in action, navigating not only the dangers of the blaze but also the oppressive heat amplified by scorching summer temperatures.
