In a tangible assertion of justice, the Fort Worth Police Department has been recognized for its swift intervention in a harrowing case of domestic violence. On July 6, 2022, a Texas Department of Transportation camera captured the chilling moment Michael Stinson, 52, brutally attacked his girlfriend. The footage prompted police to respond, preventing a potential tragedy. In a subsequent report, the victim detailed the extent of her ordeal, describing how Stinson beat, strangled, and sexually assaulted her, adding that he threatened to throw her off an overpass and marked her legs with derogatory terms.
The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office took to social media to publicize the outcome of the case, where the judge imposed a 75-year sentence on Stinson. During sentencing, a defiant message was delivered as the judge proclaimed to the defendant, "the violence against women stops today!" The severity of the sentencing reflects not only the heinous nature of this incident but also the defendant's prior history of violence against women.
The commendation of the Fort Worth Police not only honors their work on this specific case but also underscores the critical role law enforcement plays in intervening in instances of domestic violence. Assistant District Attorneys Darren De La Cruz and Melinda Hogan led the prosecutorial efforts, while Investigator Dara DeWall and Victim Coordinator Carma Anderson provided essential support and advocacy for the survivor throughout the judicial process.
