Downtown Hickory is gearing up for a family-friendly extravaganza this summer, with the return of Saturday Screenings, the community's beloved free movie series. Igniting the screen with classics both old and new, the bi-monthly event invites locals to unfold their lawn chairs and enjoy films under the stars.
The series kicks off with "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" on July 12, followed by "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" on July 26. August brings "Sing" on the 9th, and "National Treasure" on the 23rd, ensuring a variety of genres to satisfy all cinematic tastes. The films, all carrying a PG rating, make for ideal summer nights for families looking to catch a flick, without the price tag of a movie ticket, as per the City of Hickory.
Announced by the City of Hickory, the Saturday Screenings will set up shop at the Lowes Foods City Park Parking Lot in July, and then transition to Union Square for the August showings. The city has confirmed that in the circumstance of inclement weather, appropriate updates will be provided to keep potential attendees informed.
Pre-movie concessions and games will be available to entertain attendees before the show begins, with an advisory note for parents to accompany their children. The hosting body, City of Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department, has joined forces with the Footcandle Film Society and is presented by Jay Brown, Realtors® to offer this communal experience. In a statement obtained by the City of Hickory's official announcement, they mentioned, "Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs."
For those unfamiliar with the location, Lowes Foods City Park can be found at 306 Main Avenue NW in Hickory. As the summer peels back its first layers, and families search for entertainment that doesn't dig into the wallet, Hickory's Saturday Screenings stand as a testament to community and the timeless joy of a good film.
