The Gahanna Division of Police recently celebrated the retirement of Officer Ben Corbin, a veteran law enforcement professional with a 27-year tenure serving the City of Gahanna, as per a social media announcement the department shared yesterday. Officer Corbin had a storied career that kicked off with the pursuit and arrest of a serial bank robber, his commitment to maintaining public safety and advancing community relations stands as a testament to his dedication.
During his extensive service, Officer Corbin was an active member of the Tactical Response Unit and the Special Investigations Unit within the Detective Bureau, his work leading operations that were critical to the security fabric of Gahanna, he didn't just maintain the status quo but instead he built bridges within the community, engaging in outreach such as bike patrols and supporting city events such as the Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival and Independence Day celebrations. According to the Gahanna Division of Police, Corbin’s influence extended to local youth as he took on the role of a School Resource Officer, fostering connections with students in the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools and promoting safety awareness.
In the midst of a climate where the role of law enforcement is often scrutinized, it is the careers like Officer Corbin's—with its emphasis on community connection and preventative measures—that are highlighted as exemplifying the positive potentials of community policing strategies, the official statement from Gahanna Division of Police makes it clear, they held his contributions in high regard stating "We thank Officer Corbin for his outstanding service and commitment to our community and wish him and his family a long and happy retirement."
