Thunderstorms are expected through the afternoon and a high near 81 as a Flood Watch raises concerns about heavy rain and localized flooding.
Flood Watch Covers Saturday Storm Risk
The National Weather Service has placed Franklin County and much of the surrounding area under a Flood Watch from 8 a.m. through Saturday evening, with the watch scheduled to continue until midnight. Forecasters describe repeated showers and storms, with localized totals of 2 to 4 inches possible in training or slow-moving storms.
That is a meaningful escalation from Hoodline’s Friday forecast, which flagged weekend storms but did not include a flood alert. The most active period should run from late morning into the afternoon, when frequent thunderstorms could make roads slick and quickly fill drainage trouble spots.
Downpours Could Disrupt Saturday Plans
Tropical moisture and slow-moving storms could produce intense bursts of rain.
Drivers should avoid flooded roadways, highway dips and underpasses, especially if water begins covering the pavement. The Flood Watch is in effect as storms repeatedly pass over the same neighborhood, and conditions can change quickly.
Sunday Warms Up Before A Sunny Monday
Precipitation should end from late afternoon through early evening. Temperatures should fall only to around 67 degrees before Sunday brings partly sunny skies, a high near 85 and a chance of storms.
Monday offers the clearest break in the forecast, with sunny skies and a high near 76. The overnight low should dip to about 58, giving Columbus a brief taste of more comfortable early-fall weather before temperatures climb again.
Heat Returns Midweek With More Storm Chances
Tuesday should be mostly sunny and warm near 86 degrees, followed by Wednesday’s mostly sunny high near 89. A slight chance of afternoon storms returns Wednesday, while Thursday carries a more substantial chance of showers and thunderstorms.
