Residents of the Seward Neighborhood can expect to see construction crews at work as CenterPoint Energy proceeds to upgrade the local gas infrastructure starting June 9. The project is set to modernize ageing pipes along East Franklin Avenue, impacting the area between 24 Avenue South and 22 Street East, with an estimated duration of two weeks, according to a recent bulletin issued by CenterPoint Energy.
The works, intended to bolster safety and ensure reliable gas service, will see the replacement of plastic gas mains nearing the end of their lifespan with contemporary plastic piping. This procedure involves boring underground beside the roads, which may result in some intersections receiving temporary backfill such as dirt or gravel until permanent restoration is possible. Despite the inconvenience, traffic disruptions are anticipated to be minimal, consisting mainly of parking restrictions, single sidewalk closures, and lane shifts. Yet, all traffic impacts will be communicated as they become clear.
For those curious about the construction specifics, CenterPoint Energy has committed to informing affected residents ahead of any service disruption. "CenterPoint Energy will send a postcard in the mail before the service crew comes on site," the utility company stated, and further elaborated that appointments will be made for relighting service and shifting meters from inside to outside when necessary. Residents can expect crews to be working block by block, at a pace of approximately one per week.
Restoration of the affected roads, sidewalks, and lawns is expected to trail the completion of the construction by a few weeks. While temporary measures by utility crews will aim to preserve the area's convenience, CenterPoint Energy has assured that the "final step in an infrastructure project is to restore the roads, sidewalks, boulevards, and lawns that were impacted by construction."
The Seward community's patience is reportedly much appreciated by CenterPoint Energy as it embarks on this essential maintenance.
