The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is in the midst of a serious inquiry following the death of Jacie Louise Harrison, aged 22, from Clayton, Georgia, while in the custody of Rabun County Detention Center. As reported by the GBI, Harrison became unresponsive in her holding cell last Thursday, June 5. Despite immediate attempts made by detention center staff to revive her and the arrival of EMS personnel, Harrison's condition deteriorated, leading to her being pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Earlier in the day, before the incident escalated to a confrontation that would culminate in her untimely demise, local authorities were alerted to a disturbance involving Harrison. Attempting to enter homes on Kingwood Drive without permission, she was reported by multiple 911 calls - leading to the arrival of the Rabun County Sheriff's Office. According to the same GBI release, when the deputies arrived at the scene, they found Harrison armed with a stick, defying multiple commands to drop it. Following her refusal, a deputy used a Taser in an attempt to subdue her, which reportedly had minimal effect.

Harrison was promptly arrested on charges of obstruction of a law enforcement officer and public drunkenness. Booking procedures at the Rabun County Detention Center labeled her behavior as uncooperative, ultimately landing her in a holding cell. There, within a span that remains unclear, Harrison became unresponsive leading to the desperate and ultimately failed life-saving efforts by the staff.

The GBI's investigation into the in-custody death of Harrison is ongoing as agents work to determine the events leading up to the incident. An autopsy is pending to establish the official cause of death. At this time, the GBI has not released additional information.
