The Georgia State Patrol is asking for the public’s help after a pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run on Interstate 75 in Dooly County. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the incident occurred around 6:10 a.m. Tuesday near mile marker 109. The victim, identified as Richard Alan Dykes of Cochran, Georgia, was standing outside his vehicle on the shoulder of the southbound lane when he was hit.

WALB reports that the vehicle involved may be a semi-truck with damage to its right-side headlight assembly. The truck did not stop and continued southbound on I-75. Investigators believe the truck failed to maintain its lane when it struck Dykes.

The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team from Troop H is leading the investigation and examining the area near Vienna’s exit 109. Authorities are asking anyone who was driving in the area at the time, especially commercial drivers with dashcam footage, to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Georgia State Patrol Troop H Radio Room at (229) 386-3333.
