A tragic incident unfolded in Gilbert where a 2-year-old child drowned in a backyard pool on the evening of June 25. First responders rushed to a home situated near McQueen Road and San Pedro Street after a call was made to 911 just before 7:30 p.m., as reported FOX 10 Phoenix. The emergency services discovered the toddler unresponsive and being attended to with CPR by family members.
The Gilbert Police Department, with GPD's Brenda Carrasco noting, "Upon arrival, officers found the child unresponsive, with family members performing CPR after locating the child in the backyard pool." According to Carrasco's statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, officers tried to seamlessly continue the life-saving efforts until Gilbert Fire Department's crew arrived. Unfortunately, the child was later pronounced dead at the hospital that evening.
Details surrounding how the child ended up in the pool and the duration the toddler was submerged remain unclear. Gilbert Police are actively investigating the circumstances that led to this devastating event. The child's identity has not yet been disclosed to the public.
