Texas Governor Greg Abbott is shuffling the deck over at the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, appointing a new member and naming a new chair to guide the board responsible for the regulation of the practice of psychology in the state. In a move that took some by surprise, Abbott appointed Brian Rentsch, a professional engineer with no immediate background in psychological practice, to serve on the board through October 31, 2027. According to a press release from the Governor's office, Rentsch brings his expertise as a certified project manager professional and an engineer with ties to various professional organizations.

Rentsch, hailing from Grapevine, Texas, works with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., and holds a membership in several engineering societies including the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the National Society of Professional Engineers. More than his professional affiliations, Rentsch is actively involved with Church at the Cross and possesses a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University—all this according to the governor's announcement.

In addition to Rentsch's appointment, Abbott designated Ryan Bridges to serve as the board's chair. Bridges, a Lead Analyst for Insurance Risk Management at CenterPoint Energy, currently contributes his expertise on several other boards and associations. His chairs extend to the Surplus Lines Stamping Office of Texas Board of Directors and as vice chairs, the Texas FAIR Plan Association Governing Committee. Bridges also puts his energies into volunteer work with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and notably, he is a life member of organizations including the National Eagle Scout Association, and the Sam Houston State University Alumni Association. His educational credentials include a Bachelor and a Master of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University.
