The Illinois Attorney General's office has announced a notable court verdict against a Greene County man for his role in child sexual abuse material possession. Ethan T. Seaton, a 20-year-old from Roodhouse, has been sentenced to a prison term of 10 years following a guilty plea to two counts of Class 2 felony possession of child pornography, as reported by the Illinois Attorney General's office. The sentencing was executed by Greene County Circuit Court Judge Zachary Schmidt this past Tuesday.
Attorney General Kwame Raoul made it clear that his office, in partnership with federal, local, and state law enforcement, is committed to aggressively tracking down and prosecuting individuals involved in the online distribution and possession of such material. "This sentence sends the message that offenders who commit these horrific crimes will be held accountable," Raoul stated, according to the official press release from the Illinois Attorney General's office. A search conducted in September 2024 at Seaton's residence by Raoul’s investigators, the Roodhouse Police Department, and the Illinois State Police South Central Illinois Drug Task Force led to Seaton's arrest after he admitted to possessing the illegal content.
The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General's High Tech Crimes Bureau with help from the Greene County state’s attorney’s office, as detailed by the Illinois Attorney General's office. Aiding law enforcement in cases such as Seaton's is the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, operating under a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspected child sexual exploitation online at cybertipline.com and child abuse at dcfsonlinereporting.dcfs.illinois.gov. Further resources, including local child advocacy centers, can be found at childrensadvocacycentersofillinois.org. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General Katherine Hegarty and Courtney Lindbeck.
