Mark your calendars for a day dedicated to mental well-being as the City of Gresham gears up for its first-ever Mental Health Fair, an initiative aimed at fostering awareness and offering support to the community. The fair, scheduled for this coming Monday, June 30, will be held at Fire Station 71, located at 1333 NW Eastman Parkway, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, as reported by the City of Gresham's official news release.
The event boasts a family-friendly environment with no cost of entry, and attendees can look forward to a variety of activities tailored for all age groups, from informative booths set up by local mental health providers to engaging opportunities like face painting, meeting first responders, and getting a close look at emergency vehicles; moreover, the city is also offering complimentary food, available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
In alignment with National Men's Health Month, the Gresham Mental Health Fair emphasizes the significance of comprehensive support systems for mental health. Mayor Travis Stovall, who is a professed advocate for mental health and community wellness, highlighted the city’s commitment by stating, "Mental health and community wellbeing are topics I am passionate about," explaining further, "It’s important that we work to remove the stigma surrounding mental health. By making resources more accessible and opening the door for conversations, we’re taking an important step toward building a healthier, more vibrant community for everyone." These remarks were made in the official press release.
Gresham residents are encouraged to take part in this inaugural event, which is not just for individuals actively seeking support or more information about services, but also for those looking to spend an enjoyable afternoon with family and friends; in doing so, the community takes a collective stride toward destigmatizing mental health and reinforcing the narrative that fostering a sound mind is just as crucial as maintaining physical health.
