Residents and businesses in Hanalei, brace yourselves for a scheduled water service interruption on June 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., as announced by the Department of Water (DOW). The water shut-off is necessary for the Hanalei Water Line Improvements Project, focusing on the replacement of the old water main system to comply with current standards, ensuring proper fire flow requirements are met. According to a press release issued by DOW, this will affect parts of Weke Road, Kūhiō Highway, ʻAmaʻama Road, ʻAnae Road, Heʻe Road, and Kumu Road.

Alongside water service, vehicle traffic will also experience disruptions. While Kūhiō Highway will maintain openness but switch to only one lane with alternating traffic, the intersection with ʻAnae Road will be unavailable to thru traffic from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Motorists are encouraged, available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., to seek alternative entry and exit routes via Weke Road to access ʻAnae Road.

Preparations for the shutdown include storing enough water for personal needs, notifying those within your network, checking potential water heater issues, and businesses planning for the disruption. Further assisting the community, DOW will conscientiously provide water buffaloes for essential uses located at Waiʻoli Park soccer fields and Waiʻoli Beach Park, with customers being reminded to bring their own containers for any water needs.

As stated in their press release, DOW reassures customers that these improvements are critical for enhancing the resilience and dependability of Hanalei's water infrastructure.
