The Hanalei community has an opportunity to lend their voice to the conversation on local infrastructure updates at a public event tonight. As reported by the County of Kaua'i website, the Department of Water will be hosting this gathering at the Hanalei Elementary School Cafeteria from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., where residents can learn more about the upcoming Hanalei Water Line Improvements Project.
Starting mid-June with the first phase and continuing into winter 2025 for the second, the project focuses on upgrading the aging water main infrastructure to adhere to current standards. The affected areas, stretching from Weke Road along 'Anae Road to Malolo Road and intersecting Kūhiō Highway, will see improved fire flow capacity upon completion. However, during the construction, water service interruptions and various road closures will inconvenience the locals, who are invited tonight to discuss these pressing community concerns over complimentary refreshments, as reported by the County of Kaua'i.
Concerning the logistics of the project itself, "Impacted areas will be the portion of Weke Road from ʻAnae Road to Mālolo Road; ʻAnae Road; Heʻe Road; and Mahimahi Road" as well as the intersections with Kūhiō Highway, the County of Kaua'i press release states. These changes, while beneficial in the long run, will likely bring temporary disturbances including noise, vibration, and dust typically associated with construction sites.
Additionally, for those requiring assistance to fully participate in tonight's event, the Department Of Water urges to reach out for necessary auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures. Such requests should be made as soon as possible, preferably 48 hours in advance of the meeting, by calling 808-245-5455. For more details or questions ahead of the meeting, the Department of Water is available for contact at the same number or via email at [email protected], as per the County of Kaua'i.
