Destiny Campos, 22, and Jeremy Fancher, 39, have been charged with murder after their 4-month-old daughter, Brookelynn, was found dead in a drawer at a Days Inn motel in Harris County in May 2024. Charging documents state that Fancher placed the baby in the drawer and used a towel to keep it closed. A hotel housekeeper took photos and reported the situation to management, but no arrests were made at the time. The charges were filed more than a year later. Campos is seven months pregnant and has another child, an 18-month-old boy, according to Click2Houston.
Hotel staff reported that the child had been placed in similar conditions on multiple occasions. Luann Simon, the child’s maternal grandmother, said the parents regularly used the method to keep the baby quiet, stating, "When they wanted alone time or wanted her quiet, they would shut her in there." Simon also questioned the delay in law enforcement action, saying, "They should’ve been charged with the drugs at the scene and held on those charges until the homicide charges were ready," as mentioned by Click2Houston.
In a report by KHOU, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced the arrests in the case involving the death of baby Brookelynn, noting the "horrific details" uncovered during the investigation. He recognized the efforts of the various agencies involved. The report stated that a housekeeper confronted Campos after finding the baby in a drawer, and Campos reportedly laughed and dismissed the concern. The case is now progressing through the legal system.
