A serious collision between a Sacramento Regional Transit bus and a vehicle on Sunday has left multiple people hospitalized, according to details from two local news sources. The incident, reported by ABC10, occurred before 4:30 p.m. near Auburn Boulevard and Marconi Circle, involving serious injury to passengers from both the vehicle and the bus.
Sacramento police are actively investigating the crash, which Sac RT described as a "serious head-on collision" caused when the "vehicle swerved into the path of the bus, hitting it head-on," as reported by ABC10. In this head-on crash, a total of seven people were injured, two of whom are in critical condition, and the incident resulted in substantial damage to both vehicles involved.
The Sacramento Fire Department informed KCRA that four out of seven injured individuals needed to be hospitalized. The two individuals in critical condition were from the vehicle, and two others from the bus also received hospital attention, including the bus operator. Images from LiveCopter 3 showed the extent of the damage sustained in the crash.
"We are actively cooperating with law enforcement and emergency services in the ongoing investigation," SacRT said in a statement obtained by KCRA. The transit agency also mentioned that there were no life-threatening injuries reported at this time. The five bus occupants, not hospitalized, have reportedly sustained minor injuries, according to information provided by officials. The full extent of the damages and the cause of the accident are still under scrutiny as police continue to unpack the series of events leading up to the crash.
