In a recent flurry of law enforcement activity, the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office SC has announced the arrest of one Christopher Ray Chappell. Last Thursday, Chappell, a Heath Springs resident, was charged on 33 warrants, as reported by the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office. His alleged criminal acts comprise property, firearms, and drug offenses, with investigations leading up to his arrest spanning several months.
The saga of Chappell's apprehension unfolded when investigators, acting on a search warrant, descended upon his home in Heath Springs on April 23 spotting several stolen items, including a utility trailer and goods from a local burglary. Simultaneously, illegal firearms and suspected drugs were discovered, laying the groundwork for Chappell's ensuing legal battle. According to the local Sheriff's Department's statement, Chappell, already barred from owning firearms, found himself in deeper trouble as a cache of illegal drugs was also seized from the premises.
Following the discovery, deputies had been on Chappell's tail, following leads and conducting surveillance. The break came when law enforcement located Chappell at a business on Great Falls Highway last Thursday. Chappell was apprehended alongside a female acquaintance as they exited the establishment, in what was described as an arrest without incident.
A search of Chappell's 2015 Chevrolet Silverado yielded even more contraband, including various amounts of Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, Crack Cocaine, and Cocaine, among other narcotics and paraphernalia. "We put Chappell in jail, closed out several cases, and seized lots of drugs and were able to return stolen property to its owners," said Sheriff Barry Faile in reflection on the arrest's impact on local crime.
Denied bond at a subsequent hearing, Chappell is now facing a litany of charges, including but not limited to grand larceny, drug trafficking, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
