For the first time, Henderson Little League is sending three girls’ softball teams to the Nevada State Championship. According to league officials, this marks a first in the league’s history.
Henderson Little League teams that won District 2, which includes 10 leagues, were honored at a special event before heading to the state tournament. Players received banners, rings, and trophies. “Today is an exciting day. It's one of very few days we get all of our star players together for picture day,” said League President Jason Caldwell in an interview with News 3 LV. The event included a photo session and a ring presentation ceremony.
The state Little League tournament will take place at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park from July 10 to 12. A player told KTNV, “Even if we have our tough moments, we just break through, and we usually win, and if we still lost, we just keep pushing ourselves to get better.” The teams have gained attention for their performance. Michael Campos, a former fire department media relations officer, said in a report by News 3 LV that the local Little League scene is helping raise the profile of women’s sports.
