Hilliard's first responders, side by side with local Special Olympics athletes, are preparing to carry the torch through Downtown Hilliard, inviting everyone to come out and show their support. This torch run signifies more than just a prelude to the games; it's a communal celebration of perseverance and solidarity.
Starting after 11 a.m. from the Hilliard Municipal Building and concluding at the Safety Services Building, the course will mark its path through the heart of the city. Eager to witness this event, community members can stake out spots along Norwich Street to Main Street, then along Northwest Parkway. Residents are not only encouraged but are being encouraged to line the streets, adding their cheers to the camaraderie.
In a statement obtained by the City of Hilliard's official website, Detective Brandon Long of the Hilliard Police Department, who serves as the Torch Run’s state director, spoke about the event's significance. "This isn't just a run – this is an internationally recognized community policing event that showcases the heart of Hilliard," Long said. He called upon the community to rally behind the athletes, underscoring the impetus behind the run as a beacon of inclusion and unity.
A modest donation is the ticket to take part in the run, with a $30 minimum entry to hit the pavement. And it's not just for those strapping on their running shoes; anyone can offer a monetary gesture to bolster a runner's effort. All the funds raised go straight to Special Olympics Ohio athletes, and a generous 80 percent of the Hilliard Police Department's spoils are earmarked for its own Hilliard Bobcats Special Olympics team. Long noted, each step and dollar contributes to the local heroes on the field.
