In commemoration of Juneteenth, a historical day marking the end of slavery in the United States, most Hillsborough County offices and facilities will shutter their doors on Thursday. Closures include administrative offices, customer service centers, and numerous other county-operated entities. As reported by Hillsborough County's official newsroom, typical services such as solid waste collection in various areas including Tampa Palms and Hunter's Green will not operate, postponing their resumption to the subsequent scheduled pick-up day.
Residents needing to dispose of waste during the holiday will have to wait, as the Southeast County Landfill and both Northwest and South County transfer stations will also remain closed, along with the Resource Recovery Facility, community collection centers, and yard waste processing sites.
Many key facilities such as all County recreation centers and the primary Hillsborough County Customer Service Center at (813) 272-5900 are set to go on a hiatus for the day. This information comes per the Hillsborough County announcement, which also notes that libraries within Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative will not serve their patrons on Juneteenth, except for the Bruton Memorial Library in Plant City.
For those facing water woes or in need of urgent pet assistance, emergency numbers remain operational. Calls regarding County water and wastewater service may be directed to (813) 744-5600. The Animal Control Officers, though running with a skeleton crew, will respond to emergencies, reachable at (813) 744-5660.
