Two Holyoke police officers helped rescue a man from a burning vehicle early morning yesterday following a crash near Jackson and Commercial Streets. According to the Holyoke Police Department's Facebook post, Officers Genesis Saenz and Yashira Loyd were responding to a separate incident around 2:15 a.m. yesterday when they heard the crash near the I-391 North Exit Ramp.

The officers found a 29-year-old man trapped in a car that had struck a tree and was beginning to catch fire. With assistance from a nearby citizen, they forced open the door and pulled the injured driver to safety.

Using a fire extinguisher, the officers contained the flames until the Holyoke Fire Department and Cataldo EMTs arrived. The Massachusetts State Police later took over the investigation into the crash.

The identities of the driver and assisting citizen have not been released, and the current condition of the driver remains unknown. The crash remains under investigation by state authorities.
