In an unexpected turn of events, the Hooters location in Taylor, Michigan, has shut its doors permanently, leaving the state with only a single Hooters restaurant in Saginaw. This shuttering was confirmed by a phone recording at the Eureka Road establishment, as was reported by The Detroit News. Hooters, once a ubiquitous presence across the nation, famed for its chicken wings and distinctive uniformed staff, appears to be in a diminishing phase.
The wave of closures follows the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, as Hooters had previously mentioned a restructuring agreement aimed at selling 100 corporate-owned restaurants to franchise groups. Despite this strategy, the closure of the Taylor location marks a continued trend of contraction. Just last April, the company reassured the public that Hooters restaurants were "here to stay," even as it worked with creditors to restructure through bankruptcy court. This assurance was mentioned by WWJ Newsradio.
According to WOODTV, last Wednesday, Hooters made "the difficult decision to close certain Company-owned locations," indicating a move towards an "optimizing our business in support of our long-term goals." The closures affected over two dozen locations across 14 states, signaling perhaps a more extensive contraction than initially projected. Automated messages played when each restaurant's number was called confirmed the closure of these locations.
