The tragic incident, which happened around 11:20 p.m., involved a gray Infiniti G37 operated by Villegas Umanzor striking a green Chevrolet Lumina from behind. As per the City of Houston, the Chevrolet was pushed into a ditch beside the road by the impact. Subsequently involved in the accident, the Infiniti collided with a parked vehicle along the roadway. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is still verifying the identity of the deceased driver, aged 66.

Villegas Umanzor and a 65-year-old male passenger were transported to the hospital in stable condition following the crash. During the investigation led by HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant Y. Ramirez and Officer T. Hudson, it was determined that Villegas Umanzor was impaired at the time of the accident. As a result, he was arrested and charged for his role in this incident.

Paramedics transported the driver of the Chevrolet to an area hospital, where doctors pronounced him deceased. Villegas Umanzor, who is now facing serious legal charges, is being prosecuted in the 248th State District Court. A booking photo has been released in connection with the official news release.
