A late-night journey became a tragic final voyage for a man driving along the North Freeway in Houston. According to Click2Houston, a crash was reported on the feeder road off Rankin before Airtex around 11:15 p.m., where the man's truck struck a wall and erupted in flames, ultimately claiming his life.
The chain of events began seemingly as commonplace as any night on the freeway, but it spiraled into an inferno that would close off the area for hours while firefighters and police responded to the scene and preliminary evidence suggests that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed before the collision occurred. Although only the driver was involved in the accident, the severity of the incident required first responders to attend and the roadway to be shut down for investigation and cleanup.
Further details provided by a FOX26 Houston report indicate that after losing control, the truck rode the sidewalk for 200 yards, leading up to the fatal impact with a pole that left the driver trapped inside the burning vehicle. "Sergeant Dallas says firefighters arrived at the scene to put the fire out and one man dead inside," the report added.
