Brace yourselves for a breezy weekend, Honolulu. According to the National Weather Service, this weekend, a quasi-stationary high-pressure system to the northeast is expected to increase trade winds, so you may want to secure any loose items you have outside.

These stronger trades are bringing a drier, more stable airmass with them, which means lower humidity and cloud cover; however, despite the island not hitting the red flag warning, there's an increased risk for fires everyone should keep a weather eye out for outdoor activities that could inadvertently start a blaze, says the NWS.

Early next week, we're told to prepare for a change as the pressure high weakens and ushers back in more moderate winds. still, we will see the usual pattern of periodic showers, mainly smattering windward and mauka areas, but for now, it's sunscreen and shades over umbrellas.

Marine conditions are also getting rough. The NWS maintains a Small Craft Advisory through this afternoon for several channels, including Maalaea Bay and Big Island southeast waters, so sailors, take heed and plan accordingly. Waves are expected to kick up a notch tonight, continuing through Sunday, especially in — you guessed it — windier nearshore areas.

On a brighter note for surfers, we're looking at below-average surf along south shores for the weekend, but come Monday, a moderate, long-period south swell is forecasted to make things interesting, likely peaking by Tuesday, surfing conditions could flirt with High Surf Criteria at this time, reports the NWS.
