An investigation is currently underway following a residential fire that occurred in Plum Borough over the weekend. According to a report by WTAE, the incident occurred yesterday evening, resulting in one person being hospitalized. The Penn Hills No. 7 Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene, where they discovered the deck ablaze and the fire rapidly extending into the house.

Further details reported by TribLive revealed that the fire initiated on the back porch of a home at 1442 Greendale Drive around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, and not only did a resident suffer injuries, but also a volunteer firefighter. Safety Officer Glenn Kopec Sr. from the Unity Volunteer Fire Department reported that the firefighter was checked for heat-related issues. At the same time, the resident was transported to a hospital for evaluation of burns and heat exposure. The fire was reported to have been quickly controlled within 15 to 20 minutes; nevertheless, it caused considerable damage to the property, rendering it uninhabitable.

After the incident, volunteer firefighters from Plum, Penn Hills, and Monroeville responded quickly and were able to control the fire without major issues. Kopec told TribLive that both the firefighter and the resident had only minor injuries. The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s office will investigate the cause of the fire, which may have started from a grill.
